Since Bangladesh’s independence in 1971, bilateral relations with the State of Qatar have gradually progressed, underpinned by strong economic ties and mutual cooperation. Formal diplomatic relations were established in 1978 during the tenure of Emir Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar and Bangladesh. A significant pillar of this partnership is the exchange of manpower, with a substantial number of Bangladeshi workers contributing to Qatar’s key sectors, including infrastructure development, hospitality, and domestic services.

Bilateral cooperation has been further reinforced through important agreements such as the Agreement on the Regulation of Manpower Employment (1987) and the Memorandum of Understanding on Labour Cooperation (2015), enacted under the leadership of Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and the government of Bangladesh.
