Since Bangladesh’s independence in 1971, its relationship with Malaysia has developed into a strong partnership based on mutual economic and cultural interests. Diplomatic ties were officially established in 1972, and relations have grown steadily, particularly through manpower cooperation. Since the 1980s, thousands of Bangladeshi workers have migrated to Malaysia, contributing to sectors like construction, agriculture, manufacturing, and services. These workers play a vital role in Malaysia’s economy while sending valuable remittances back to Bangladesh.

Several bilateral agreements have enhanced this cooperation, including the Memorandum of Understanding on the Employment of Workers (2003) and the G2G Plus Agreement (2016) to ensure safe and transparent recruitment.
