Since Bangladesh’s independence in 1971, its relationship with Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has steadily strengthened. Saudi Arabia officially recognized Bangladesh in 1975 under King Faisal, with deeper ties formed under Kings Khalid, Fahd, and Abdullah through cooperation in trade, development, and Islamic solidarity. A key element of this relationship is manpower exchange. Since the late 1970s, millions of Bangladeshi workers have contributed to Saudi Arabia’s growth, particularly in construction, domestic service, and other essential sectors. These workers send vital remittances that support Bangladesh’s economy. Under King Salman, both countries have improved labor agreements to ensure ethical recruitment and better worker protection.
